Pickens' water plan criticized

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A former corporate raider's plan to sell Texas Panhandle groundwater to other Texas cities will leave the area an "uninhabitable desert," an Oklahoman said Wednesday.

Oilman T. Boone Pickens outlined his proposal in "Gold on Tap: Water in the 21st Century," a keynote speech at the 21st Annual Governor's Water Conference in Oklahoma City.

Pickens formed Mesa Water Inc. last year to sell Texas Panhandle water to southern Texas cities. He denied that his plan to sell 65 billion gallons of groundwater a year would turn the Panhandle into a dust bowl...
